• Students will be able to create a 3D project/shadow box of a small coastal area after a hurricane based on a Saffir-Simpson hurricane wind scale measurements.
• Students will be able to create a timeline of Hurricane Sandy.
Natural destruction, earth’s processes, hurricanes, erosion, weathering, analyzing and organizing data, satellite images, Saffir-Simpson scale.
This is a two-part project that involves the study of Hurricane Sandy’s destruction and it’s relationship to the Saffir-Simpson hurricane wind scale.
This project should be assigned and taught at the end of a unit study on destruction from earth’s natural processes. Students should have an understanding of:
• the water cycle
• air masses and fronts
• severe weather
• reading and interpreting weather maps
