The Renaissance was an important time in the history of the world, and many famous Italian artists lived during this period. Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo Buonarroti, and Sofonisba Anguissola were influenced by the rebirth of interest in ancient Greece and Rome. These artists created many wonderful masterpieces, and art students should be able to identify their artwork and place them within historical context.
Leonardo is best known for the Mona Lisa and the Last Supper. Michelangelo sculpted the David and painted the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Even though Sofonisba faced many obstacles as a woman artist, she became a court painter in Spain.
