This packet contains engaging, fun, and hands-on activities for teaching students about hyperbole. Hyperbole activities are PERFECT for students because students exaggerate all the time! It's fun. It's silly. It's even ridiculous at times. They can easily identify with it!
This pack contains
1. Hyperbole poster – display this for student reference
2. Hyperbole writing activity (open-ended) – students must complete short hyperbole writing prompts with their own, unique answers, being sure to exaggerate. (*Sample answer key provided)
3. 20 Hyperbole task cards – one set for identifying the hyperbole being used PLUS another set of (the same) task cards for students to explain the meaning of the hyperbole used. By having these two sets, you can easily differentiate based on your students’ needs and understanding of hyperbole. You could easily use each set at different times in your hyperbole unit. (Answer keys provided, some answers may vary)
4. Hyperbole Challenge – a game for students who “get” hyperbole and want to have some fun with it. This game is similar to Apples to Apples, but with a hyperbole twist. There are 36 object/prompt cards and students must write their own hyperbole sentences for those objects. The judge must choose the best (most unique, funniest, wildest, silliest, etc.) based on the object. There is also a blank set of object cards for students to draw their own objects, plus a set of recording cards for students to play the game.
