This I AM...YOU ARE vocabulary activity covers the American Revolutionary period. If you have NEVER tried an I AM...YOU ARE vocabulary activity, you're missing out. It is fun, informative, and a great, quick, and effective review of content, particularly vocabulary. I use it before, during, and after units to revisit vocabulary words for student achievement and knowledge. It is simple, yet effective. The first student stands up in front of the class with the first slip and reads his IAM and YOU ARE. The YOU ARE statement matches another student in class' I AM statement. The matching student comes up and reads his/her I AM YOU ARE...so on and so forth. If the entire class is 100% correct there will be a line formed up front with matching vocabulary. I typically let them read it again to review once more. The students really get into it, and I will sometimes TIME them against other classes for a competition for donuts on a Friday. It gets intense. Please feel free to email or call me for further directions and/or ideas about this activity.
