This week-long project is a perfect way to invite students into your classroom and learn a little more about them. Because of the varied project options, this can be applied to students as young as 7th grade and as old as seniors in high school.
The "I Am" Project helps students think about who they are as individuals, who they wish to become, and how they plan on getting there. It is a great project to hang on to until the end of the year. When you give those projects back to your students and let them see all the progress they made throughout the year, students can feel a real sense of accomplishment.
Although it can be altered to fit your time constraints, I would recommend extending this project over a period of five to seven school days, as it is important to let students have class time to work on this if you don't want to overwhelm them with homework during their first week back from summer vacation.
