I Am Malala Theme Project
Hello! Thank you so much for checking out my I Am Malala theme project. While this project was designed for the book I Am Malala, you could easily edit the assignment to work as a wrap-up project on theme for any novel or text. Please feel free to do so!
After students have read the text, this project takes about 6 class periods (about 40 minutes each). While there are arguably many themes in I Am Malala, for my class, I chose to give the students the theme: Education empowers change. You could adjust this as well. Students could each come up with their own theme, for example.
I usually follow this timeline:
o Day 1: Explore and log into the Piktochart website (piktochart.com) they will use for presenting their work. I give students time to both explore this website and the three presentation options (presentation, infographic, or printable). Then, I go over the rubric with them and have them turn and talk to synthesize the project expectations.
o Day 2: Students complete a graphic organizer that contains all of the information that they will need for their presentation.
o Day 3 and Day 4: Put presentation together online.
o Day 5: Organize and practice presentation
o Day 6: Present final product to other groups of students
