This "I Am" Poem is student friendly with clear directions. The assignment is a WORD document, so you can edit the directions or change some of the verbs, information, etc.
This assignment requires students to cite evidence to express different perspectives of the characters in the play version of "Diary of Anne Frank" by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett. While I used the literature textbook in the directions, the text source can be easily modified to include a variety of text such as primary sources, actual diary entries, etc.
This assignment supports the Common Core State Standards through citing evidence from text to provide an accurate perspective. The depth of knowledge and understanding of the topic requires students to be precise in their writing to express an accurate perspective unique to their reform. This assignment is intended to allow students the opportunity to cite evidence and convey experiences of a group of characters in a creative manner through indirect characterization.
This assignment usually requires a few class days to allow students to develop their writing. I have also provided a rubric (2nd page) that can easily be used or modified to grade the assignment.
