These colorful POSTERS are designed to help FIRST Grade teachers as they integrate the Common Core Learning (BEHAVIOR/SOCIAL) Standards into their school day ~ starting with class rules!
As you begin the school year, introduce your students to the Speaking and Listening Standards using the posters as a guide. These posters can be printed in color full size and placed on a wall, bulletin board or chalkboard, or they can be printed smaller (when you go to print, choose the option “pages per sheet ~ 2) and glued into a notebook.
NOTE: The standards on these pages have been “watered down” into more simplistic forms for First Grade students.
There are two parts to this document. The first few pages have the first simplified version of the speaking and listening standards. The next group of pages has the standards in a VERY simplified form. Teachers can use the first four pages for the first part of the year and introduce the second set of 6 pages towards the middle/end of the year.
Here are just a few ideas to get you started with these standards and demonstrate to your evaluator your efficacy in implementing the Common Core Standards.
1.Print in full size (or bigger at Staples); use them as a guide as you create class rules with your students, place them where students can see them and refer to them at the beginning of lessons. I have them posted near where I do most of my teaching so I can point at them. If a student is not following directions, you can refer to the standard to guide the student in choosing better behavior.
2.Print in half size (directions above), make enough copies for each student and go over one standard a day as a
lesson. Have students glue them into a notebook and write/draw about the standard. Children could also write
about their behavior using the standard as a guide.
