Many students do not ask for help when stuck. This may be because they feel lost, anxious, embarrassed, overwhelmed, or they simply do not know how to ask. Use this high-quality social narrative to help teach students how to ASK FOR HELP and get UNSTUCK. Students need to be taught and encouraged to ask for help, and this social story does both.

This story helps students learn SELF-ADVOCACY skills from a young age. It can be used pre-K all the way through middle school. Self-advocacy is one of the most important skills students will need for success throughout their education and after high school. This story establishes a firm footing of self-advocacy. Use it with an individual student or with your whole class as a presentation via smartboard or projector.

THIS SOCIAL NARRATIVE COVERS:
• What are some reasons I may be feeling stuck?
• HOW do I get unstuck? I can raise my hand and ask for help.
• What WORDS do I use to ask for help?
• When I ask, my teacher (or an adult) helps me figure it out!
• I might not ask for help for fear of being teased.
• I can ask a friend for help if it’s OK with my teacher.
• It is BEST to ask for help – when I ask, I LEARN!
