This is a work I have used for many years when teaching letter sounds. I made it by hand but times have changed and am now making and offering to you a digital version. The sequence of letters I introduce is based off the Bob books series and I always do letters in pairs so that children understand that letters make different sounds.
Children will sort between letter sounds for /s/ and /a/ using the picture mats to sort picture-to-picture and/or picture-to-letter. I have also provided tracing pages and handwriting pages to choose from. I prefer the handwriting pages but when a young child needs more assistance in learning the letter I give them a tracing page. I also added "rainbow" letters for fun, in which children can color the picture and practice writing the letter with different colored pencils.
There are also pages to be put together into a beginning sound book...one book for /m/ and one book for /t/. I copy onto heavy weight paper, cut and laminate and the assemble using two 1" rings.
I typically set this out with sandpaper letters and objects for children to sort and feel, as well as a card reader for children to listen to the name and beginning sound. Making the work multi-sensory!
