I Can Edit- Capitals and Punctuation. This is a fun and engaging way to help emerging writers master writing conventions. This is a critical skill not only for beginning writers that will help practice editing skills.
I encourage students to use decoding skills to read the sentence first. Next, I ask students to put on their “editing goggles” and look for mistakes. Then, I tell students to rewrite the sentences while making the corrections. Finally, I let them pick their favorite sentence and illustrate it on the back.
I have included a format for the back of this printable. This is for early finishers. Adding this component does a few things: First, it encourages students to compete their work. Second, it adds an instant reward for early finishers. Third, it act as an informal comprehension assessment, as students must comprehend the sentences to be able to illustrate them.
I simply run this on the back of each page and save them as my masters!
