How many of us have students or children with hearing loss who know nothing about hearing? Help your students become familiar with the audiological terms as it relates to them.
This item provides a simple framework for a minilesson on individuals' hearing loss. It is a simple worksheet designed for young or low language students. It asks them to explain their listening devices and type/degree of hearing loss. This is a great way to get students to start to take control of their hearing needs and be able to participate in conversations explaining their hearing loss.
I use this as a progress monitoring sheet for self-advocacy goals on student IEPs. For students who don't have these goals due to mastery, I have them fill out the sheet at the beginning of the year and give it to their regular education teachers along with the IEP. Being the one in charge of providing the documents and including information they wrote themselves really encourages ownership, responsibility, and pride in students.
