This "Daily Learning Targets" SMART Board presentation can be used for all subjects as a way for teachers to post their learning goals for each class. Teachers decide on their learning targets from the common core and post for the students to see in the form of "I can" statements. The student’s can then copy the "I can" statements and mark next to each one either "bulls-eye" (they think they understand the concept) or "not quite" (they are unsure about understanding the concept). At the end of the day or the week, the teacher can collect the "I can" sheets (available for free download) to check for students self-assessed understanding of each target. This SMART Board presentation goes with the Microsoft document "Weekly "I Can" Statements".
-Keep teachers focused on the learning goals they are trying to teach.
-Students know what it is they are expected to take away from a lesson.
-Students to self-assess their learning progress honestly, without fear that their peers will know they don't understand a concept
-Teachers get a general picture of what students understand, and what they are struggling with.
The “I can” statements SMART Board presentation is an excellent way for teachers to present the daily learning targets and monitor students understanding. It also gives the student a sense of responsibility for their own learning.
