Calling all third grade Texas Language Arts teachers! Here are the third grade English Language Arts and Reading TEKS redefined so that your students can understand them. I have taken each TEK and broken it down and put each part of each TEK in an “I Can” statement for my students.
In my classroom, I have run them off on cardstock, cut them out, and laminated them. As I am planning each week, I pull the ones that I am going to be working on. On the day that I am going to be teaching the TEK, I place them in a pocket chart that I have by my board. As we are learning each day, I pull the card and project it onto my board to introduce or reinforce the objective. By projecting the TEK on the board, I can talk about it, read it with the kids, and have them repeat it back to me. I also have kids go and pull the card from the pocket chart to identify which one we are working on. These cards help me to stay on track and make sure that I am covering what I need to be covering as well as relate the objectives to my students in a language that they can understand.
