About the Posters
These middle school science standards posters are unique because the illustrations help "unpack" the standard and grab the attention of your students. Sometimes I made the illustration very detailed to provide a visual for every aspect of the standard. Other times I tried to capture the spirit of the standard and depict an aspect that would grab students' attention and make them want to know more. Some of the illustrations have a cartoon style while others have a realistic and scientific tone. I even included maps, charts, and diagrams from governmental science institutions like NASA, the National Climatic Data Center, and the U.S. Geological Survey. I tried to include a little something for every different type of scientist in your classroom.
The language of each standard begins with "I can..." I also simplified the language in a few instances. For the most part, I didn't find that the wording needed much simplification - most of it is pretty straightforward - a fact that can perhaps be attributed to the nature of science itself: concrete and based in reality.
An editable Powerpoint version of the posters is included so you can edit the I can statement to suit your students.
Everything in this bundle can be printed on letter size (8.5" x 11") paper. No complicated cutting is required. To save paper, there are two posters on each page. You just have to cut one time down the middle of the page to separate the posters.
