This is a lesson from Module 1: Job Readiness. Students will learn appropriate ways to communicate with co-workers in a vocational setting. After each step, allow students time to think about this question and fill in their answer. Ask if anyone is comfortable sharing aloud how they would handle each situation. Additionally, build on each topic by sharing examples of how to respond to each question. Write the suggestions on a board so students can fill in appropriate ways to respond. Permit time for students to brainstorm and share any other response examples. When possible, encourage class discussion to build on the connection to the lesson as well as model for certain students who find it challenging to communicate with others in a polite way.
The I Can Work! program is a five-module course designed to integrate communication skills with hands-on pre-vocational training in the areas of job readiness, clerical, retail, food service, and the grocery industry. I Can Work! serves to introduce and educate young adults who are interested in working in their community.
