“I can” statements allow students to understand the expectations needed and connect the SLP to the school's goal of moving towards proficiency. These are Speech Language based but have worked well in fitting with our school's goal of all staff members displaying "I can" statements school wide. Each statement is started with “I can” and then a specific action verb that is a clear statement of what is expected within the therapy room setting. Visual supports are added to help reinforce each "I can" statement using Picture communication symbols from Mayer-Johnson.
