In this pack, students write poems to be used as Mother's Day gifts for their moms, grandmas, aunts, etc. A Mother's Day card and teacher examples are also included.
1. Students use the prewriting paper (p. 3-5) to brainstorm possible poem stanzas (people, places, and things they come from).
2. Next, students choose at least 6 stanza topics (2 from each category- people, places, and things) from their prewriting to draft using the drafting paper (p. 6-7). Optional/extra stanzas are included if students would like to write more. A suggested final stanza for Mother’s Day is also included. 2 examples stanzas are shown below.
3. Then, students choose cute publishing paper to write their final drafts. 5 different versions are available (p. 8-12). Mom, Grandma, and Auntie paper included.
*Bonus* Mother’s Day card included! To use, copy p. 13-14 front to back, fold and have students decorate and write messages to their moms, grandmas, and/or aunties.
I come from my Mom...
who bakes my favorite cookies
and loves me unconditionally.
I come from my backyard...
where I camp out in the Summer,
sharing scary stories in our tent.
My students enjoy composing their poems every year! We also create self portraits to attach to our poems. Then I roll each one up, tie it with cute ribbon, and they're ready to be sent home as gifts!
Enjoy and please leave feedback! :)
