NO PREP! PRINT-AND-POST Visual Support!
This is a VISUAL SUPPORT that provides TEN options to students when they do not know how to spell a word.
This is a great support to be projected for the whole class to see during a writing activity so that the teacher does not need to be disturbed for a simple, "How do you spell XYZ?" question!
This support was originally created for students with special needs because not being able to spell a word may trigger disregulation, reduced work completion, and thus less teaching time and more classroom disruptions.
As an additional support and reminder, I included a Problem-O-Meter to remind the student that not being able to spell a word is a small problem. Small problems = small reactions. An appropriate reaction can be a learned response to not being able to spell a word because there are TEN options on this visual support that students can carry out.
There is one strategy that was PURPOSELY omitted from this list, which is to look up the spelling of a word on an iPad, computer or other technology device on the Internet (or another app). The RATIONALE is that the student may not transiently use the device for only looking up the spelling of a word. And the student may not quickly or easily relinquish use of the technology device once allowed on it (he/she may not transition well from shutting off the iPad/device to going back to writing), which could also lead to emotional disregulation and possibly a power struggle. Therefore, the TEN strategies listed on this visual support do not include technology. Additionally, some school and/or home settings do not have technology available for their immediate use at any given moment.
