Have you ever had a kid who who insists on trying to finish something, even when you’ve given several prompts that it is time to be finished? This particular behavior can be very frustrating for teachers and parents and possibly for the student himself. Sometimes it is linked with perfectionism and irrational thoughts. In extreme cases it can be tied in with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Whatever the case may be, a child’s compulsion to finish a task can be a barrier to learning and make simple classroom tasks hard to manage. This social story aims to target this behavior and use a cognitive behavioral approach to introduce the concept of Sticky icky thoughts and FIGHTIN’ TITAN THOUGHTS, how to recognize them, and then perspective taking to attempt to change them.
