This activity is a great Number Corner activity. Students are all given one card and are instructed to read their card. For example, they have a card that says "I have (3 rods and 2 units). Who has 4 tens and 7 ones?" The student who's card shows 4 rods and 7 units then replies with "I have 4 tens and 7 ones. I have 47!" After they read what they have, they then ask for the next. This is a short (or long if you like) activity that helps students to practice place value, quick number recognition and connects a visual, the base ten blocks, with a number and value.
