32 GAME CARDS – S Blends in Initial Position
HOW TO PLAY
Print, cut out and laminate cards (print in grayscale if you need to conserve color ink).
Deal out all of the cards to the students. Pick a student to go first. The first student reads his/her card like this: “I have ______. Who has ________?” and tosses his/her card into a box or pile in the center of the table. The child with the correct answer to the “who has” question reads his/her card and throws it into the box or pile in the center of the table. Students continue this sequence as rapidly as possible until all of the cards have been played. Time the students and encourage them to see how fast they can play all of the cards. Challenge them to beat their previous times! Variation: for students working at the single-word level, have them read only the words without the carrier phrases. For example, instead of saying “I have cat. Who has camp?”, he/she can simply say “Cat. Camp.”
