Product Description
This game reinforces important literacy skills. It contains 41 cards that allow students to identify homophones within sentences. The kids love this game!!!

The cards are distributed to students. A student is selected to read their card. E.g. “I have pair. p-a-i-r. Who has the correct spelling for the homophone in this sentences sentence? I used flour to make a cake.” The student who has the card which displays flour then says “I have flour. f-l-o-u-r. Who has the correct spelling for the homophone in this sentence? _________” and so on. The game continues until it loops back around to the very first student.

Print these cards on coloured card of your choice and laminate for durability. Enjoy!!

AUSTRALIAN CURRICULUM OUTCOMES

YEAR 3
Recognise and know how to write most high frequency words including some homophones (ACELA1486)
• drawing on meaning and context to spell single-syllable homophones, for example ‘break’ or ‘brake’ and ‘ate’ or ‘eight’

YEAR 4
Read and write a large core of high frequency words including homophones and know how to use context to identify correct spelling (ACELA1780)
• using meaning and context to determine the spelling of homophones, for example ‘there’ and ‘their’; ‘no’ and ‘know’

Please Note: Although homophones come up mostly in the year 3/4 curriculum I believe it is still an important skill for other year levels.

My year 1/2 class last year (2016) learnt about homophones when we were investigating words and they loved learning about them. They would come to school and tell me more that they had found with such excitement and would often spot them in lessons even though that was not the focus. We recorded them on a chart and practised using them regularly, particularly in their writing. It was wonderful to see!!
