Looking for simple, yet engaging activities for the Middle School Math classroom? This particular activity is called the I Have, You Have. The whole class works together to get through it and includes lots of practice solving exponents.
Each student is given a card and the students must read their cards in order. For example, somebody's card might read "Who has 3 squared?" Since the answer is 9, the person with the card that starts with "I have 9" will read their card next. The activity includes the cards as well as many helpful hints and variations that can be used.
This can used at many grade levels, but is geared toward 6th, 7th and 8th grade. It only includes positive exponents, but does have positive and negative bases. A few of the problems include a number being added to another number with an exponent on it. The activity takes between 15-25 minutes. (It gets faster each time you use this time of activity because the students know what to do)
