In this lesson, students will watch the famous "I Have a Dream" speech by Martin Luther King Jr. In session 1, they watch the speech on video and think about the questions on the page. The questions were taken from a thematic unit I taught. They are great discussion questions to discuss with the class after watching the speech is completed.
Session 2 revolves around the words in the speech. Give each student or group of students a copy of the speech with a highlighted section for them to look at. They use inferencing tools to understand the hidden message in the speech and summarize the speech in their own words.
In session 3, students will create their own personal dreams revolving around their own lives. They can then make a craft to go along with their personal dreams.
