I Have...Who Has?/Place Value-Numbers Game

Materials:

24 I Have...Who Has? Place Value-Number Cards from 1 to 24
Students in Grades K, 1, and 2

Instructions:

Draw a card from card stack.
Demonstrate how to play this get-acquainted game.

"I am (First and Last Name). My card shows (example) 8 ones cubes and the number 22. Make sure that the card is visible to all the other students. I chose (First Name of another student who has not been chosen)." When the student you have chosen comes to the front, take the card you have chosen and return to your place with the card being visible to others to show that you have had your turn. The next student chooses a new card and repeats the procedure. Cards do not have to be chosen in any order.

You may want to explain that the model of the number does not correspond to the number shown on the card. In I Have...Who Has? games, each side of a card connects to the side of another card as in dominoes. These connections will be used in an I Have...Who Has? game after every student has introduced themselves and identified their card.

Continue having students come forward and choose new cards until all students have a card. Any extra cards can be distributed to students who volunteer. An optional "I Have...Who Has?" game can be played to review concepts introduced. Later, the game can be played as whole group, small group, partners, or individually.
