PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This 146 page packet is based off of the book "I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie" by Alison Jackson. Each literacy center aligns to Kindergarten Common Core State Standards; however, please note that some of the activities are enrichment for kindergarten and can be used for first grade.

-"I Can" posters for every center

-Sequencing: After or while reading the story, students will put food cards inside the old lady's "mouth" to show what she is/has eating/eaten {2 versions} {RLK.2}

-Sequencing 1st to Last: Students will put the food cards in order of which the events occurred and record on the recording sheet. {3 versions} {RLK.2}

-"How Would You Feel?" Students will draw a picture and/or write how they would feel if they ate as much food as the old lady ate. {RLK.10}

-"Clap it" Syllable Segmenting: Students will pull a picture card, clap the syllables heard, and record {3 versions to differentiate} {RFK.2b}

-"Push it" Syllable Segmenting: Students will pull a picture card, push a chip/counter up for each syllable heard, and record {RFK.2b}

-Syllable Blending: Students will put picture cards together (like a puzzle) to determine how many syllables are in each word. (visualization cards also included for differentiation) {RFK.2b}

-Concept of a Spoken Word: Students will read/be read a sentence and they will touch each word spoken/heard OR they can use counters/chips to push up for each spoken/heard word. {RFK.2}

-Beginning sounds: Students will pull a card, say the word, and determine what beginning sound they heard. {There are 4 differentiated recording sheets to meet the needs of your students} {RFK.2d}

-Ending Sounds: Students will pull a card, say the word, and determine what ending sound they heard. {There are 4 differentiated recording sheets to meet the needs of your students} {RFK.2d}

-Rhyming (short a, e, i, o, u): Students will match the rhyming words (old lady face and a piece of food) and record on the differentiated recording sheets. (There are also blacklines inside the old lady's mouth to help with differentiation.) {RFK.2a}

-Making Words: Happy Thanksgiving: There are two different versions for this. Letters are included (glitter letters and scrabble letters). To incorporate addition and math (as an enrichment and integration of math) you can have students add the letters of the new word they made and record on the recording sheet.

-Reading Response Sheets (2 versions): Draw a picture of your favorite part OR draw a picture of your favorite part and write about it. {RLK.10}
