I Love My Shoe Colors Worksheets Centers and Games

My students absolutely love a popular blue cat, so I made these color games and activities with a shoe theme.

The variety of activities will help reinforce colors for younger and ESL children, while also being helpful for K-1st grade students as they learn to identify these sight words: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, white, black, brown and grAy/grEy.

Besides depicting a huge variety of shoes, the cards include colorful cats, paw prints, and guitars.

There are also word cards in matching colored ink, as well as sets in black ink so you can test comprehension.

The main focus of the packet is having fun playing games using 20+ sets of colorful cards, which children can use for the following:

Sorting: Simply print and laminate the color-word sorting "mats" on a matching color of construction paper; have children pick X number of cards, then sort them by color.

Patterning: Children choose 2 to 3 colors or kinds of cards, then create a row of patterns. (ABAB, ABC etc.)

Math: Children can make groups/sets with the cards, and use them as manipulatives to count, add, subtract, and show greater & less than.

I’ve included those math symbol cards as well as a “recording equations” worksheet.

Games: Most of the templates have 11 color cards on one page, so they are perfect for Memory Match and “I Have; Who Has?” games, or card games like “Go Fish”.

Make extra sets and cut them in half for mini puzzles.

I’ve also included several whole group games which can be played with a pocket chart, white board or flannel board: “Cat Cat Where are you? We think you’re hiding under a shoe!”.

To practice 0-10 number recognition, play “1-2-3 Come find the cat with me! Just where’s that cat? Pick a number to see where he’s at.”

To practice colors, color words and syllables, fill in the blank with a child’s name and play, “ _____________ ______________ clap and say, what color the cat should wear today.”

This poster features a cat sporting his white shoes, however they can be changed to the 10 other colors.

The “What’s Missing?” game is played as a whole group on the floor and will reinforce colors or color words. (My kiddos’ personal favorite).

“Oh no! The cat's lost a shoe!” is another whole group game, as well as “Cat! Cat! Who’s Taken Your Shoe?”

Besides the games, I’ve also included 2 color-word worksheets, which can be used for an assessment.

Use the activities for centers, as a whole group, for partner fun, in small groups, or as an assessment tool.
