This is a scripted lesson I use with a tutor to reteach students how to compare and contrast (author's choice of words is a secondary skill, but not explicitly taught). This two page lesson guide includes before, during, and after reading activities as well as some vocabulary words found in the story. Students compare and contrast the monsters in this story. After reading, they create their own monster and write about it, comparing the monster they created to the one in the story.
This is a fun activity at any time of the year, although I tend to use it around Halloween since the monsters they create and write about look great on the classroom walls!
