Are you looking for an engaging activity to help sure up alphabet recognition and beginning sounds? I have used this activity with my kindergartners and they love it! They ask for the next one every week.
I Spy ABC's is a fun, hands-on activity to get your students excited about learning, as well as firm up letter recognition and beginning sounds!
I Spy ABC's bundle contains all 26 letters for students to enjoy!
Great for all Pre-K & Kindergarten students, as well as struggling First Graders!
Suggestions for Use:
Students use a "magnifying glass" to look for the words that begin with a certain letter - Can you spy the words that begin with "Aa"? The magnifying glass engages the student as they start on their hunt for certain letters in the alphabet that are beginning sounds in words they find.
Students work with the teacher to identify the words. Teacher discusses the words and helps them in saying the beginning sounds each time a word is found. Great vocabulary discussion also!
Students record the words in their Reading Journals. (Each of my students have a reading journal. I have created letter headers on lined paper, and students place the words under the correct letter header for work throughout the week, as well as throughout the year.)
I Spy ABC Characters are very similar to the Alpha Friends in the Journey's curriculum.
**Print a small group set on card stock and place in sheet protectors for years worth of use.
**Great center work, as students are able to recognize the letters/words on their own and write them down. Once they come to the teacher, use them for discussion and additional word hunt games, as they learn to decode.
Enjoy & Have Fun!
