Bundle Description

These resources use CVC words and a few basic sight words to help students work on reading comprehension and sentence structure. A flower theme is used.

Sentences & Questions Used in These Resources:

  • The cap is on the cub. -- Is the cap on the cub? (yes)
  • The nut is on the net. -- Is the nut on the net? (no)
  • The dog is in the dip. -- Is the dog in the dip? (yes)
  • The bug is on the bib. -- Is the bug on the bib? (no)

CVC Sentence (Statement) & Question Building

The focus of these resources is on mixed CVC words for all five vowels. For each packet in the bundle, there is a total of eight card sets which help practice building simple sentences/questions using CVC words. Four sets build sentences/questions in word order, and four sets present the same sentences/questions with the words in a scrambled (or nonsense) order.

Select the cards you wish to have your students practice. Laminate, cut out and post at various locations around the room. If you use mini-clipboards in your classroom, simply fold the pages in half and have your students complete one side at a time. Alternatively, these cards may be placed into a container for use at a learning center.

Recording Pages: Two response pages are provided to allow for further differentiation. On both pages, the student will search the room for the words and record. Copy or unscramble the words to build the sentence/question. Then, s/he will do one of the following:

  1. Select and color the picture (one of four) provided that matches the sentence/question.
  2. Illustrate the sentence/question.

CVC Sentence Editing

The focus of this resource is on individual vowel sounds as well as mixed CVC words for all five vowels. For each packet in the bundle, there is a total of four card sets with four cards each which help young learners practice editing simple sentences (statements) and questions using CVC words. The sentences and questions are the same as the ones found in my I-Spy a CVC Sentence and I-Spy a CVC Question resources for continuity.

  1. Editing sentences only
  2. Editing questions only
  3. Editing two sentences and two questions
  4. Editing two sentences and two questions

Recording Pages: Two response pages (with two different writing line styles) are provided to allow for differentiation. On both pages, the student will search the room for the sentences/questions and edit for beginning upper-case letters and punctuation. Then, s/he will do one of the following:

  1. Color the picture.
  2. Draw her/his own illustration to match the sentence/question.
