This is a bundle of activities that can be used with the novel by Lauren Tarshis "I Survived the Attacks of September 11, 2001". I have created a note-taking organizer to utilize as your students read the chapters daily. Students will be asked to make predictions, summarize, identify character's actions and figurative language, visualize and think critically about the text. This is a great way to keep students engaged while reading the text. It also gives the students a purpose for reading.
This bundle also includes materials to teach vocabulary found within the novel. You will receive a vocabulary power point that can be utilized to teach the students the weekly vocabulary words. In addition to the power point you will also receive vocabulary cards and a vocabulary organizer. The organizer provides the students with an area to write an original definition, draw a picture to remember the term, and a place to identify a synonym and antonym for each vocabulary word. All of these strategies align with Marzano's vocabulary practices.
A final bonus that you will receive is a quickwrite and a contrast chart. Students will respond to these writing activities in their note-taking organizers. This is a great way to prepare students for the text or to have them make a personal connection with the text while thinking critically.
I hope you will consider purchasing this bundle. It will enhance your lessons while teaching this novel and helping your students remember this important part of our nation's history.
