Common Core, Smarter Balanced
This unit is on Langston Hughes’ poem “I, Too,” and it is Common Core aligned and written as a Smarter Balanced assessment.
If you need an emergency lesson for a substitute this unit would help you quickly in a pinch.
This unit is broken down into 4 sections:
1. The poem (1 page)
2. Selected Response: 7 multiple-choice questions, 1 fill-in-the-blank question (1 page)
3. Constructive Response: 2 short-answer questions (1 page)
4. Answer key (1 page)
All 4 pages come in Word and in PDF, making for 8 pages total.
This unit is a great way to study the Harlem Renaissance, Modern Literature, and/or Langston Hughes. It combines Common Core benchmarks with the Smarter Balanced approach to assessment: selected responses and constructive responses.
An answer key gives answers to the multiple-choice questions and gives suggested answers to the short-answer questions.
