Pages 3-5: Amazing Word Cards
Pages 6-10: Spelling Word and Challenge Word Cards
Pages 11-13: Word Wise (I print the word cards out and laminate them). Students choose six words from the word cards and divide them into syllables, then say their vowel sounds with a partner.
Pages 14-16: Word Work (I print the word cards out and laminate them). Students spell and say six words from the word cards. They then write sentences using words with the long and short vowels.
Pages 17-18: Let’s Write! (I hang up the poem poster on our class focus wall. This helps remind students of types of poems). Write a four- or five- line poem about a favorite person or pet. Be sure to use details. They may draw a picture to go with their poem.
Pages 19-21: Words To Know (I laminate the word cards). Students choose four words from the word cards. Write the words and list two synonyms for each word, then write sentences using the three of the words and their synonyms. Circle the words and synonyms.
Page 22: Read For Meaning (Read a Leveled Reader. Write a sentence that tells the main idea. Write three details about the main idea.
Page 23: I included a portion of I Wanna Iguana for students to read for fluency.
