PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

I Went Walking
First, read this story with the students as a group. Have them name the different animals and their colors. Try to elicit full sentence formulation by prompting them to answer: “I saw a _____ looking at me.” Then ask each student to recall an animal that was seen in the book (you may need to give a first sound clue). After the student names an animal, give him/her the worksheet with that animal to color in. Encourage students to color in and add a background to the picture as well. Then pass out the blank worksheets and ask the students to add an animal that was NOT in the story. Most students will answer with an animal in the story and may need a description clue to think up an additional animal (e.g. it is gray, it has a trunk, it is huge). Then copy everyone’s worksheets to create an I Went Walking class story. You can copy the animals from the book first and then add in everyone’s created animals. Finally, share these stories as a class. Hand out a copied book to each student and have them read the page when it is their animal they colored in. ☺
