There are many different reasons why young children become angry and engage in temper tantrum and aggressive behaviors. Whether it’s from environmental stressors, social stressors, low frustration tolerance or negative learned behavior, young children need extra attention and instruction when it comes to identifying, understanding and managing their anger in a developmentally appropriate way.

This resource tool can be used in any setting (home, day care, school, and community) and by any person (parent, educator, therapist, mental health professional). Its best suited for ages 3 to 7 years old.

“I am Angry, I am Mad” uses simple language and has a fun sing-song rhyme aspect great for learning and parent/ peer/ teacher/ professional bonding. It can be read with a group/classroom or individually with a child.

“I am Angry, I am Mad” is also great for acting out and modeling the emotion, sensation/response/situation and coping skill. This continues to help with learning and is a fun way to role-play and put on a small performance for others.
Repetition of using this tool (reading and re-reading!) is vital as it helps the child actively become aware of their emotions and reactions.

Attached to the product is a brief adult guide to the justifications and therapeutic rationale for “I am Angry, I am Mad”. When explaining these justifications and rationales in easy and straightforward language, the guide makes for great talking points and teachable moments.
