Teacher can cut out simple to read words. As children learn words they switch out words and complete the repetitive sentence: "I can read..." and finish it with the words they can read. My students do these by theme. For example, if we are focusing on days of the week, I put out the days of the week words and allow the children to Velcro on the "I can read" sheet as they repeat the sentence: "I can read Monday, I can read Tuesday, I can read Wednesday", etc. Vocbulary words included are number words, color words, and days of the week words.
