Are you ready for your students to practice 2-digit division using mental math? This math center is a great way to practice your division facts with simple remainders. This is a step before introducing larger division problems, but also a way to challenge them to think about remainders.
Object of the Game:
To start with the first card and students determine if they have then next card. Play ends when the last card is reached.
Directions for Whole Class Game:
Pass out playing cards to each student, some students may get more than 1 card.
The student that has the card that says, “This is the first card,” will go first. They will read their card aloud and the other students determine if they have the answer. Then the next student reads their card. Every card in the set is connected to the previous card. Play continues until all cards have been played. You may also collect the cards around the room as you go to keep up with which students still have cards to be played. The game will end once you reach the last card.
*Individual or Group Game*
This would be a great challenge for a student that would want to do the game by themselves. They would need a larger area to lay out the cards to work. This could also be completed in a small group when cards are divided evenly among the group.
