Looking for an exciting way to incorporate creative conceptualizing, contemporary art, and language arts into your middle/high school art lesson? Here it is...

This ZIP file includes a lesson plan using National Art Education Association standards (NEW ones, June 2014), as well as CCSS (Common Core) ELA standards for grades 6 through 8. Within it, students are introduced to contemporary artist Farhad Moshiri, who uses idioms within his work. Whole class and small groups are asked to discuss key questions. Eighth grade standards are used, but this lesson applies to upper middle to high school grade levels.

Students are asked to find an idiom and conceptualize a work of art around it, focusing on composition and/or juxtaposition.

Objectives, standards, materials, vocab, lesson sequence, and rubric are all included (Word doc). Reference images of Moshiri's work are also included (JPEG files).

**UPDATE: 11/17/14
Now including IB learner profile traits in the lesson plan as well as an artist response page with six questions that require written responses. These questions check for understanding and allow students to explain their conceptual thinking.
