This powerpoint presentation covers Topic 3.3 in the IB Biology curriculum. Specifically, it covers the basic structure of DNA molecules (see learning objectives below).
Each slide is labelled with the specific learning objective and animation/video links are provided in the slide notes. The slides are formatted to print well for handouts or revision and I can provide a pdf version upon request.
As always, please let me know if you have any suggestions for improvements. These are always a work in progress!
**IB Biology Learning Objectives:
3.3.1 – Outline DNA nucleotide structure in terms of sugar (deoxyribose), base and phosphate.
3.3.2 – State the names of the four bases in DNA.
3.3.3 – Outline how DNA nucleotides are linked together by covalent bonds into a single strand.
3.3.4 – Explain how a DNA double helix is formed using complementary base paring and hydrogen bonds.
3.3.5 – Draw and label a simple diagram of the molecular structure of DNA.
