Bonjour!

For each text type, you will find:

• The conventions for the text type
• An example text (between 250-300 words)
• A simple format for students to plan their own written text (this is only for them to plan, not to write the whole essay)
• A list of connectors and how to use them

My students really like to see the same format – after a couple of times, they know exactly what to expect and how to approach the task.
I also noticed that they tend to anticipate all the elements correctly because the process is repetitive.

Recommendations for use (this is how I do it! You might want to approach it differently!)

1. Before studying a new text type, I usually ask the students to brainstorm what they think is necessary to include in the format we are looking at.

2. We then use the example text to look at their suggestions and see if they missed anything.

3. Students see the checklist and highlight each part in the example text.

4. Students write their main ideas + examples on the blank outline on a topic taken from a past exam paper.

5. Students write their own text, following their plan (the teacher can check it first to make sure they are on the right track or students can check each other’s - a great exercise too as it trains students to give feedback)
