This activity is a take on the rather famous “Who Owns the Zebra?” puzzle that is often attributed to Einstein. It has been adjusted by using IB terms and concepts.
IB DP Concepts touched upon: Learner Profile traits, Areas of Knowledge (TOK), Extended Essay subjects, Group 2 languages, CAS Project ideas (Creativity-Activity-Service).
Benefits of Using This Puzzle
You can probably think of lots of ways to use this puzzle with IB Diploma Programme students, IB faculty members, or even IB parents.
How to Use it
How you use the puzzle is really up to you. Probably the best way is just to give it to the solver(s) and let them have at it, making note of the process(es) they use to solve the puzzle. I use it by letting individual solvers grapple with it for 10-15 minutes, getting started with some sort of method, and then pairing or grouping those individuals so that they discuss their strategies and collaborate.
