According to the IB Learner Profile, students should strive to be: inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced, and reflective. This is the SECOND of 10 lessons prepared to engage high school students in the IB Learner Profile.
This is the KNOWLEDGEABLE lesson and it asks students to think about a variety of historical figures and celebrities and to determine:
1) How are they knowledgeable?
2) Who is the MOST knowledgeable?
3) How are we knowledgeable?
Students will participate in a Think-Pair-Share activity to figure out and explore their answers. There is an additional handout that accompanies this lesson for students to record their responses.
As an IB school, we try to incorporate the Learner Profile in our school community, culture, and curriculum as often as possible. In addition to monthly lessons and daily "Do Now" activities for each characteristic, at the end of each month, our school also awards IB Learner Profile t-shirts to students who received a "Shout Out" for the characteristic. We also designed color-coded bracelets and stickers (inspired by the Periodic Table of Elements) to go with each characteristic.
