According to the IB Learner Profile, students should strive to be: inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced, and reflective. This is the FIFTH of 10 lessons prepared to engage high school students in the IB Learner Profile.
This is the PRINCIPLED lesson and it is designed to reveal how students' ethical standards compare to others via an "Ethics Poll Questionnaire". Additionally, students are faced with four possible scenarios -- pressured to be unethical -- and asked to decide the right thing to do.
SWBAT define integrity and ethics.
SWBAT make ethical decisions while under pressure.
As an IB school, we try to incorporate the Learner Profile in our school community, culture, and curriculum as often as possible. In addition to monthly lessons and daily "Do Now" activities for each characteristic, at the end of each month, our school also awards IB Learner Profile t-shirts to students who received a "Shout Out" for the characteristic. We also designed color-coded bracelets and stickers (inspired by the Periodic Table of Elements) to go with each characteristic.
