According to the IB Learner Profile, students should strive to be: inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced, and reflective. This is the SIXTH of 10 lessons prepared to engage high school students in the IB Learner Profile.

This is the OPEN-MINDED lesson and it is designed to help students define culture and understand the need to be open-minded. Students begin by discussing: what is culture anyway? and then participate in a simulation of two fictional cultures: the Lulus and the Ziffers. To conclude, students will consider the need to be open-minded in our everyday lives.

Objectives:
SWBAT define open-minded and culture.
SWBAT consider other cultures and the need to be open-minded.

As an IB school, we try to incorporate the Learner Profile in our school community, culture, and curriculum as often as possible. In addition to monthly lessons and daily "Do Now" activities for each characteristic, at the end of each month, our school also awards IB Learner Profile t-shirts to students who received a "Shout Out" for the characteristic. We also designed color-coded bracelets and stickers (inspired by the Periodic Table of Elements) to go with each characteristic.
