This set of IB PYP Learner Profile charms/brag tags can be utilized in several versatile manners in your classroom. The charms can be used to recognize students who exhibit or have mastered particular traits individually, as a class or grade-level. (If used by more than one class/teacher-please purchase multilple liscenses at reduced rates). Students can nominate peers whom they feel have exhibited the traits (for the day/week/month), students can set their own goals as to which traits they'd like to aspire to or model (again daily/weekly or monthly), and of course-the charms can be used as each new trait is introduced to keep the students mindful of the behaviors and attitudes that they should be exhibiting.
The charms and brag tags can also be used to remind students of a particular trait that they are working towards accomplishing and masterering. Students may wear several to indicate that they have mastered those traits as well and work towards mastering all of the learner profile traits.

I love to use novelty as an instructional aid to gain my student's attention and improve motivation and participation. I feel that the charms/dog-tags allow students to take ownership of working towards mastering the learner profile traits by conscienciously working towards an actionable goal; This also ties in with the action cycle.

I have included both color and black and white (color friendly) versions. I would suggest laminating charms/brag tags. After laminating, I would suggest hole-punching and stapling the bottoms to secure the charms on a length of colorful yarn, ribbon, cord, beaded plastic necklace or metal chain or lanyard. If issuing to students to color I would suggest folding over and gluing over a length of whatever item will be used as the necklace. Allow the glue to dry thouroughly and then students can wear them. You could also opt to store them at school on a hook so that each student has accessiblity to their charms/dog-tags each day. You may also wish to place a pony bead between each brag tag/charm also.

I feel that primary instructors should introduce the learner profile traits prior to introducing the attitude traits. I feel that students need multiple opportunities to practice and master the traits in a variety of capacities. I feel that goal setting is an integral part of the process, thus student choice naturally fits in well with these tasks. The traits can be used in conjunction with the action cycle to ensure that the student's efforts are more meaningful.
