This is a multi-day IB Philosophy lesson that includes:

  • A 14-slide introduction to notable philosophers PowerPoint with teacher's notes
  • A "Being Human & Epistemology" PowerPoint with teacher's notes
  • Questions for the Podcast "How We Fool Ourselves with the Concept of Reality" with answer key
  • Fully editable Philosopher Pecha Kucha project guidelines
  • Fully editable Pecha Kucha project Rubric
  • Student notes template for Pecha Kucha presentations

The PowerPoint presentations and the Pecha Kucha project are designed for IB Philosophy, but the PowerPoints and project guidelines can be edited if this lesson is being used for a non-IB course.

This lesson introduces Epistemology and "Being Human" and is ideal for the beginning (1st quarter) of a high school philosophy course. The Pecha Kucha presentation project requires students to choose a prominent philosopher to research and then create a Pecha Kucha-style presentation. The Pecha Kucha is an excellent project to begin the year with because it introduces a presentation style that does not allow for students to build "boring" PowerPoints that they simply read from. The Pecha Kucha teaches students how to present relevant information in an engaging way.

The Podcast activity goes along with "How We Fool Ourselves with the Concept of Reality" which can be found here. A link is also included in the "Being Human" PowerPoint. There are 7 short-answer questions and an answer key to accompany the Podcast.

You can open any PowerPoint file in Google Slides. Read this quick how-to if you need to convert any PowerPoint to Slides.
