Product Description
A two-page SmartBoard Notebook file that starts with some questions/discussion prompts about misunderstandings. The second page contains a hyperlink to a YouTube clip that shows a blind homeless man with a sign that simply says "I'm blind, please help". He receives very little money. A passer-by changes his sign to "It's a beautiful day and I can't see it" whereupon he begins to receive money from nearly everyone who passes by. This allows students to discuss why the change of language affects people's behaviour. It can also be used to introduce the concept of the "beauty of vagueness" and how language can sometimes be deliberately vague in order to allow for multiple interpretations. The file is easily convertible to PDF format if you choose to use it as a handout.
