Use these colorful, printable posters to introduce and review the language of the trans-disciplinary skills within the PYP. They are designed with the upper elementary in mind and use a lot of the verbiage directly from the International Baccalaureate. Learning to use the academic language confidently is, in itself, a trait of the Learner Profile as well as the Common Core State Standards.
The trans-disciplinary skills are the building blocks to effectively allowing the children to step up to their role of learner in an engaging and relevant way. These skills are used across all of the trans-disciplinary themes and beyond school, in our daily lives, thus building upon the social skills of a child as well as the academics.
I have used these posters as a continual review of the daily language used within the PYP. Other times, I focus on only a few of the skills as part of the REFLECTION at the end of each of our units of inquiry. The more the children use the language on a daily basis, the more familiar they are with it when it comes to the Exhibition.
You can find more ideas and resources for implementing the IB PYP in my blog and in my stores. There are matching posters for Big Kids for the Learner Profile, the IB Attitudes and the Key Concepts. Or you could choose A Complete IB Getting Started with the PYP Kit, which includes these posters together with posters and activities for all of the Key Concepts, Learner Profile and the IB Attitudes.
