Engaging Group Work! Kids love to talk - let them talk about this problem set! It's a team-building, cooperative activity for IMFs.
Give students a set of formula cards and ask them to separate the cards into categories: London Forces, Dipole-Dipole Bonds, and Ion-Dipole Bonds.
This file includes "category labels" that students can use to identify each group of formula cards. For added challenge, ask students to arrange the formula cards in order of strength from weakest to strongest within their categories.
This file also includes a "Directions card" to explain the task to the students. It's complete with a QR code so students can check their answers!
This WORD document is editable, so you can remove parts you don't want, add parts you do want, and change what you need to change.
The QR code does work! It is connected to a link that leads you to a photograph of the correct answers. (Download this photograph from the link and keep it in your files if you want!) Alternatively, you can delete the QR code and replace it with one of your own!
I printed, laminated, and cut out my cards, labels, and directions so I can use them year after year! Tip: Put a set of cards, labels, and directions in a large ziplock baggie. Place the baggies in different areas of the classroom and direction students to a location! You can edit this to make different sets (with different formulas) so each group has a unique problem to solve. Take it for a grade or just do this activity to get students to interact, collaborate, and show what they know!
